For most Hungarians it is an essential duty to love sausage and hurka (Hungarian rice sausage) . If you like traditional Hungarian dishes, or share this passion for sausages and meat delicacies, do not miss the upcoming Baja Bácskai Hurka and Sausage Festival where you can meet with gastronomy and food art professionals and non-professionals. Great opportunity to learn about the preparation and traditions of sausage making, whilst enjoying the truly delicious samples and bites – food lovers, this is your place to be in February !

The city of Baja hosts the annual Hurka and sausage festival on the 22nd of February. Baja is the county town of Bacs-Kiskun county, located in the South of Hungary and can be easily reached within a couple of hours from Budapest by train or car. The enchanting town is famous of its fish soup and meat industry.

If you want to try real Hungarian dishes, homemade sausages produced by local formers and butchers, learn about the recipes then visit this lovely town on the 22nd of February. Heart warming aromas will fill the air and you can enjoy hot drinks and delicacies, whilst wandering around the venue. Food enthusiasts, and individuals fill , prepare the sausages at the town centre during this event and – this is the best bit – eat them once they are ready.

You will also have the opportunity to try the hurka, which is a traditional Hungarian dish, made from rice, and black pudding.  Visitors can enjoy entertainment on the main stage of the festival, provided by folklore dancers and other artist groups.
