The Villany and Siklos wine regions
Many wine professional and producer moved to these regions, as the areas sub-Mediterranean climate is excellent for grape planting and growing, thus for large volume wine production. The town of Villany and Siklos equals to vineyards and wine production – whereas Villany is known for its red wines, Siklos is famous of its white wines.
Wines of the region
Villany’s signature red wines are easily recognised by their full bodied, dark ruby colours that are bursting with flavours and aromas. Most of them have higher than usual alcohol and tannin content. Among the several popular grape varieties – such as the Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Portugeiser – you can find unique Hungarian grapes and their wines, such as the Kadarka or Kekfrankos.
Siklos’ white wines are beautifully flowery and unique, mainly consisting Riesling, Muscat and Gewurtztraminer grape varieties.
Popular Vinyards
Gere, Gunzer, Sauska and Polgar vineyards are the definite leaders of the regions – their name and products equal to fine wines and excellent qualities. These vineyards are known and recognised worldwide and have won several awards on wine contest, gaining appreciation and credit for their producers.
