Unforeseen success concluded the 2013 Decanter World Wide Awards – which is the most prestigious wine competition and exhibition on the world – when the winner was announced as the Hungarian vineyard, Villanyi Sauska.

The Sauska vinyard is situated in Villany region – charmingly beautiful, yet not widely known region of Hungary. The vineyard and their product, the Cuvee 5 wine was competing against major producers from all around the world, including California, Tuscany, Australia according to the „Intelligent Alcoholic” blog publisher. It the „Best wine for £15” nomination and gained international recognition.

The 2009 vintage wine consists 45% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc grape varieties. After the harvest the grapes are prepared for 3 days before the fermentation. Then the primary fermentation takes place, which last for about a month. The secondary fermentation begins, taking as long as a year and a half, where the must is kept in brand new barrels.
